What Could Have Been

Headstone for Col. Alanson Drake (1808-1846) in Old Town (Hillside Rural) Cemetery on Maple Avenue in Antwerp, Jefferson County, New York. Alanson does not appear on the Find-a-grave website, but he is listed in genealogy records. He was born in Massachusetts on August 25, 1808 and moved to New York with his parents. He married Abi Jackman and they had one son, who died after only 10 days. Alanson died a few months after his son, and they are buried together. At around four and a half feet tall, this headstone has to be the largest I’ve ever seen.
