Sleep at the Edge of the Earth

Monument to the Crane family in Bayside Cemetery off County Road 59, south of Clarkson University, in the Village of Potsdam, St. Lawrence County, New York. Bayside Cemetery overlooks Norwood Lake on the Raquette River. Five people are interred in the shadow of this boulder, most prominently Harriet Crane Bryant (1863-1945), Samuel Coggeshall Crane (1820-1904), and Julia Etta Crane (1855-1923). Julia was a well-regarded music instructor who established the first music education school in the US in 1886. Samuel was a member of several benevolant societies, including the Knights Templar.
